Surrounded by love and care, Joe passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the Bluewater Health in Sarnia, ON. at the age of 91. Reunited with his wife of 63 years, the late Elsie McGill (2016). Loving father of JoAnne McGill, Steven (Melody) McGill, David (late Debra) McGill and Susan (Andrew) Silverthorne. Cherished grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Remembered fondly by his sisters Audrey (the late Frank) Dodds and Madeline (the late Fred) Chapiach and several nieces and nephews. Joe is predeceased by his parents and 7 of his siblings. Born in Sarnia, Joe was one of 10 children. His favourite times involved a fishing rod or golf club in hand, results didn’t matter but it was about spending time with friends and family. Joe and Elsie loved spending time with their good friends Bob and Mary whether it was short week-end trips or at the Sarnia Sting game. He was also an avid bowler and loved the good natured ribbing at the bowling alley. Joe will be greatly missed by friends and family. The family would like to thank the Acute Medicine nurses and PSW's at both Twin Lakes Terrace and the Bluewater Health for their strength and compassion shown to Joe and all of the family during his stay. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with family and friends being received one hour prior to service. Burial to follow in Froomfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to a charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
