It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Franklin Moore. He leaves his loving wife, Grace (Tigert) Moore – teenage sweethearts and married 66 years. He also leaves an amazing family including his daughter Rebecca (Moore) Moore-Whitsitt, (James Whitsitt); his son, Greg Moore; and his grandchildren Meghan Whitsitt, Brad Whitsitt, and Lauren (Moore) Aubin-Moore, (Bryan Aubin-Moore); siblings Linda (Moore) Ryan, (Doug Ryan), Bev (Moore) Richards, (Jim Richards), Chuck Moore, Ralph Moore – deceased, and Trudy (Moore) Polak – deceased. A special uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Born in Windsor and raised in Brights Grove, he was a lifelong resident of Sarnia. In his early years, Gerry helped out on the family farm. After graduating from Ridgetown College/University of Guelph, he worked as an insulator/manager for AC&S Contracting, was a member of Sarnia Construction Association and a member and President of the Master Insulators’ Association of Ontario. In the 1980s he opened his own insulation business, Chemical Valley Insulation Inc. Gerry was also a volunteer at the soup kitchen, Inn of the Good Shepherd.
Gerry retired early to spend time with family and tour the world. He had a passion for travel, particularly cruising – visiting places like China, Australia and New Zealand, Thailand, Greece, Portugal, and his dream trip, Alaska. An avid reader, Gerry spent most of his time with his nose in a book. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, theatre, and watching his son play hockey and daughter figure skate. He helped out making props for the Point Edward Figure Skating Club carnivals, refereed, coached hockey, and umpired baseball. Gerry was a big Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
Gerry will be missed by everyone who knew him. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. A celebration of life will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on July 12, 2025, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service starting at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gerry’s name to the Huron House Boys’ Home in Brights Grove or charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
