With deep sadness and endless love, we announce the passing of Donald "Don" Thomas Szokoly on July 26, 2026, in Sarnia, Ontario, at the age of 75.
Don was known for his gentle nature, quiet wisdom, and kind heart. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins, enjoyed golfing and bowling, and treasured spending time with his adored dog, Bella.
Born on July 28, 1950, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, Don was the son of the late George and Dorothy Szokoly and the cherished brother of Gene, Mary Beth, Ruth, Rita, and Carolyn. He was raised in Munhall, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Robert Morris College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Don also proudly served in the United States Army Reserve, where he became known not only for his delicious cooking but also for his generosity, friendship, and unwavering camaraderie.
For 33 wonderful years, Don was the devoted husband of Judith "Judy" Ann Szokoly. Their love story began in the summer of 1987 at the Cairn Croft Inn in Niagara Falls. The moment Don saw Judy dancing in her white leather skirt and jacket with her red high heels, he knew she would one day become his wife.
Among Don's treasured writings were these heartfelt words dedicated to Judy:
For when the time has come
That we should leave this world,
The words "I Love You"
Will be said no more.
So as I close this poem,
I would just like to say,
"Judy, I'll Love You Forever"
From this day forth
Till death do us part.
"Judy, I'll Love You Forever."
Don will be lovingly remembered by Judy; his brother and sisters; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends throughout Canada and the United States.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Bluewater Health for their compassion, exceptional care, and support during Don's final days.
Cremation has taken place, and a private gathering of close family and friends will be held.
In memory of Don, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at sarniacremationservices.com.
