VAN SUCHTELEN, Mark

Mark van Suchtelen passed away on May 16, 2026, at the age of 73.

Born on September 4, 1952, Mark lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and deep love for the people around him. He had a profound appreciation for the outdoors and a passion for travelling, always seeking new places and experiences. He especially loved camping and spending time travelling with his trailer, creating countless memories along the way. Whether spending time with family and friends or enjoying a good glass of scotch, Mark had a gift for storytelling and could captivate anyone with tales from his days at camp and his many adventures throughout life.

Mark will always be remembered for his kind heart, gentle demeanour, and genuine love for people. He was stubborn and determined when he set his mind to something, qualities that helped shape both the life he built and the countless projects he brought to life with his gifted hands. Mark was a talented handyman whose passion for building and restoring brought beauty and life to every project he took on. Maria Street held a special place in Mark’s heart, not only for the home he built there, but for the lifelong friendships and sense of family he found amongst his neighbours.

Above all else, Mark was a devoted father and grandfather whose love for his family was immeasurable. He leaves behind his loving wife, Karen Holmes; his daughters, Bethany van Suchtelen (son Flynn) and Mackenzie Nathan (husband Corey, sons Rhys, Drew, and Cal); his nephew, John van Suchtelen (wife Veronika, daughter Mila); his father-in-law, Donald Holmes; and the extended Holmes family, all of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life.

Mark was predeceased by his mother, Hermina Rengers; his father, Con van Suchtelen; and his sister, Connie van Suchtelen.

His warmth, wisdom, humour, and unwavering love for family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Sarnia & District Humane Society.

We will be holding a Celebration of Life at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club on September 4th from 3 – 6pm
