A free career coaching program once limited to Lambton College graduates is now open to all Sarnia-Lambton residents actively seeking work, as part of a broader workforce initiative from the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership.

A local job coaching initiative previously limited to Lambton College graduates is now available to all Sarnia-Lambton residents, as the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) broadens the reach of its Career Accelerator program.
The free program provides one-on-one virtual coaching sessions for job seekers living in the region. It was originally developed for international students preparing to graduate from Lambton College, but its expansion reflects what officials say is a growing need for targeted, individualized career support in the wider community.
“In order to grow a stable and competitive local economy, we must ensure that our labour force is prepared, aligned with industry needs, and supported with the right resources to make informed career decisions,” said Matthew Slotwinski, CEO of SLEP.
The program pairs job seekers with career coaches for a one-hour session focused on resume feedback, interview preparation and employment strategy. Participants receive written feedback within a few days and are encouraged to connect with local employers through the Explore Talent job platform.
Eligible participants must live in Sarnia-Lambton, be actively looking for work in the region, and have not previously used the service. An updated resume is also required before booking.
Cari Meloche, SLEP’s Economic Development Officer, said the move to open the program to the broader public was a logical next step.
“As more residents look to upskill, re-enter the workforce, or explore new career pathways, expanding the program to include the entire community was a clear and meaningful next step,” she said.
Career Accelerator is one of several employment-focused programs run by SLEP. Others include Apprenticeship Job Match, which connects tradespeople with local employers; the IDEA Leadership Academy, a self-paced course in workplace inclusion; and the REDI Pilot, which supports employers in filling labour gaps through immigration pathways.
