Four women from Sarnia–Lambton have been awarded King Charles III Coronation Medals for their long-standing volunteer service with IODE Ontario, a national women’s organization focused on education, citizenship, and community support.
Michelle Batty of Ipperwash, Gloria Saunders of Forest, Helen Danby of Petrolia, and Jan Casbourn of Sarnia were honoured during IODE Ontario’s 125th Provincial Annual Meeting, held April 11 at the Hamilton Club in Hamilton. The medals were presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, the Honourable Edith Dumont.
The recipients have each contributed years of volunteer service to IODE’s provincial operations, helping deliver programs and support across Ontario.
Helen Danby was recognized for her work as Provincial President, Archivist, and Education Officer.
“It was an honour to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal as recognition for volunteerism,” Danby said. “IODE is a network of women who recognize student achievement, assist in community projects and promote Canadian patriotism.”
Jan Casbourn, a 13-year member who served as Recording Secretary at the provincial level, said the recognition came as a surprise.
“I was truly surprised, overwhelmed and honoured when my name was announced,” she said. “Many strong friendships have been developed through my time in this organization.”
Saunders and Batty were also acknowledged for their long-time contributions to the organization’s mission of building stronger communities through volunteer leadership.
