Expect jaunty jigs and rollicking reels when the International Symphony Orchestra stages its ‘Fiddles and Kilts’ show on Sunday, Jan. 21.
The guest list for the 2:30 p.m. matinee at the Imperial Theatre includes North American Fiddle Champion Shane Cook, members of the Woodchippers, Celtic singer and flutist Allison Lupton, and the ISO’s own Pipe and Drum Ensemble under the direction of Tom Rankin.
Cook and the Woodchippers are a group of instrumentalists, singers, and step dancers whose fiddle tunes have roots traced to the lumber camps of Ontario and influenced by the music of Ireland, Scotland and Quebec.
Lupton, an award-winning folk musician, will perform several original songs including Over the Ocean and Where Oh Where My Rising Star.
As well, the full International Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Douglas Bianchi will perform Celtic favourites including John Williams’ Far and Away and Weatherly’s Danny Boy.
