It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing on February 27th of our beloved Poppa, John Stewart, at the age of 70.
Living life on the road, he always found his way home to his lovely bride, Darlene Stewart. For 50 beautiful years of marriage, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unity. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and his presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
His boys were his pride and joy – Scott (Michelle) and Nick (Stacey). He spoke about how proud he was of the lives you boys built. He spoke often of you with such joy and love. His daily phone calls to check in and golf adventures will be immensely missed.
The true apples of his eye were his grandchildren—Ainsley his baby; Keagan, forever his “Tuts”; Colton; Nixon; and Hadleigh (Hadder). Poppa loved each of you fiercely. He lived to cheer you on at your games and activities, but the real icing on the cake was taking you to Global for a doughnut afterward—no matter the time of day.
John was raised in Sarnia by his parents, the late June Stewart (2012) and John Stewart (2000). He is survived by his siblings: Jim Stewart of Sarnia, Jennifer (Tony) Humphrey of Okotoks, Alberta, and Jay Stewart of Sarnia, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. John valued his siblings and had great joy in the time they spent together, treasuring the bond they shared throughout his life.
John retired in 2020 from Harold Marcus LTD, where he worked as an owner-operator and spent many days and nights traveling the open road.
He enjoyed Friday night card games with his in-laws, Diane McRae; Don Ritchie (Kay); and Deb (Brian) Cooper.
In 2025, John fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams when he rode his beloved motorcycle to Sturgis with a few close friends. John treasured his friendships whether vacationing down south, or simply sharing a dinner together. John truly enjoyed the company of good people and the memories they created.
His legacy will live on in the friends that he made, in the family that he and Darlene created. We’ll keep him alive in the stories that make us laugh, the moments that remind us of his love, and the quiet strength of a man who lived entirely for the people he adored.
Forever our memory maker.
A celebration of life will be held later at a later date. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or St. Joseph’s Hospice. (cheques only when donating at the funeral home please).
