The exhibition is named in memory of Floyd Gibson, a respected Sarnia educator, watercolour artist, and dedicated volunteer whose legacy remains closely tied to Lawrence House. Known for his commitment to arts education and community involvement, Gibson played a meaningful role in nurturing local creativity, and the juried show established in his name has become one of the gallery’s most anticipated annual exhibitions.

As a members’ exhibition, the show highlights original work by artists who live or work in Lambton County and are members of Lawrence House. Participating artists may submit one original artwork created within the past two years that has not previously been exhibited in Lambton County. The exhibition spans a wide range of styles and mediums, reflecting the depth and diversity of the region’s artistic community.

Awards will be presented on First Friday, February 6, during the exhibition’s opening night. The Mayor’s Awards, donated by the City of Sarnia, include $250 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third, as determined by an independent jury. Prizes will be awarded at 7 p.m. during the opening event.

Over the years, the Floyd Gibson Juried Show has become a cornerstone exhibition at Lawrence House, offering both emerging and established artists the opportunity to exhibit in a professional gallery setting while honouring a figure who helped shape Sarnia’s arts community. The show also plays a key role in strengthening connections between local artists and the wider public, reinforcing Lawrence House’s mandate to support, celebrate, and grow the arts in Lambton County.

The exhibition is open to the public during regular gallery hours throughout its run.
