Kiwanis Golden K announces updated August speaker lineup
Sarnia-Lambton’s Kiwanis Golden K club has announced its August speakers, covering local industry, kimchi-making and travel tips for Canadian snowbirds.

The Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K has released its speakers' program for August, featuring guests from a longtime Sarnia manufacturer, a local kimchi producer and the Canadian Snowbirds Association.
Golden K is one of five Kiwanis clubs in Sarnia-Lambton and one of more than 8,000 Kiwanis clubs operating in 85 countries and territories worldwide. The club is dedicated to improving communities one child and one project at a time.
Meetings are held in hybrid format, in person or by Zoom, every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, 180 College Ave. N. The Zoom link opens at 9 a.m. for those joining remotely.
This month's speakers include:
- Aug. 11 — Dean Pearson, general manager, and Stephanie Kirkwood, HR manager, of Cabot Carbon in Sarnia. Built in 1953, the plant produces carbon blacks used in tire manufacturing, plastics and inks, and employs about 100 people locally.
- Aug. 18 — Lo-Anne Chan, owner of Jiak, a small-batch, locally sourced kimchi producer. Chan will speak on the benefits of adding the naturally fermented vegetable dish to meals, including its boost to gut health.
- Aug. 25 — Garry McDonald, president of the Canadian Snowbirds Association, who will outline the organization's role in advising Canadians who travel south for the winter and share tips for the upcoming travel season.
Those wishing to join by Zoom can use the meeting ID 6715249417 and password GKMTG. Questions about speakers or topics can be directed to [email protected]. More information on the club is available at sarniakiwanis.com.
