Kiwanis Golden K announces updated July speaker lineup
A rescheduled Indigenous art talk has been replaced on the July calendar by a presentation on Sarnia’s bid to become a bird friendly city.

The Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K has announced its revised speakers' program for July, featuring four guests covering youth empowerment, bird conservation, community service and addiction recovery.
Meetings are held hybrid, in person or by Zoom, every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, 180 College Ave. N. The Zoom link opens at 9 a.m. for those joining remotely. Members are asked not to attend in person if they are experiencing new symptoms such as a sore throat, cough, headache, fever or runny nose.
Kennady Rayn (Osbourne) of Seventh Rayn Design Co. was originally scheduled to present "Indigenous Art and Design – A Young Woman's Journey" on July 14. That talk has been postponed to later in the year. In its place, Kiwanis Golden K member John Cooke will present "Sarnia – A Bird Friendly City." Cooke is part of the Sarnia Bird Team, a group of local volunteers working with Nature Canada to help cities protect birds from preventable deaths. He will explain the importance of the designation and update members on how far along Sarnia is in the process.
On July 21, Laura Swann, executive director of Lambton Centre, will discuss "Lambton Centre – 65 Years of Serving Sarnia-Lambton." The Lambton Centre is a campground near Kettle Point run by the United Church. Swann was appointed executive director in 2022 following a 20-year teaching career, including 10 years in New Zealand working in outdoor education.
On July 28, journalist Cathy Dobson and photographer Glenn Ogilvie will present "Roads to Recovery." The pair previously collaborated on a project documenting the lives of Sarnians experiencing homelessness. Their newest project, supported by an anonymous donation, profiles Sarnians who have overcome serious drug addictions.
Kiwanis Golden K is one of five Kiwanis clubs in Sarnia-Lambton and one of more than 8,000 clubs worldwide dedicated to community and youth service.
Those wishing to join by Zoom can use the meeting ID 6715249417 and password GKMTG. For more information on the speakers' program, email [email protected].
