I agree – Sarnia has been stagnant for many decades.
A reader writes in on her agreement of a recent letter to the editor and adds to the discussion of Sarnia’s lack of growth.

I totally agree with Sheldon Jones.
Sarnia has been stagnant for many decades.
I left Sarnia in 1973 to study in Toronto. I had the education I wanted (I did quit Ryerson which is now University of Toronto) in my 2nd year because of my personal education wants.
Sarnia was 70,000 now it’s about almost same.
Council debates things to death i.e. 2 years of discussion about new trash bins that the government said we are supposed to have according to our population. So Petrolia decided ahead of Sarnia to get them. Why did the council have 2 years discussion when the government said to do this?
Why not employ consultants and contractors from Sarnia who live here and want to make Sarnia a better place.
With my multi-experience in marketing, promotions and working with a foreign government in tourism. I applied for a vacant position at Sarnia Tourism. I had 4 phone interviews and had to submit a paper on how to entice groups to come to Sarnia for conferences. Didn’t get the job…really no issue.
I came back to Sarnia in 2005 to be closer to my family. I was offered a job in New York City but declined. Toronto was busy enough for me.
I hope that you don’t think I’m “blowing my own horn“.
There has to be a change with younger people in council and having the ability and knowledge to make Sarnia a wonderful place to visit and to live in.
