This genocide is happening with the whole world watching
A reader writes in a plea to continue support of Palestine despite media lessoning coverage.

Dear Editor,
You may have noticed that little news from Gaza has reached main stream media in this past year. The "ceasefire" (which in reality didn't happen) was supposed to stop the violence in Gaza. The wars against Iran and Lebanon have turned our attention elsewhere, not to mention the fires and earthquakes which have legitimately taken front page space.
Sarnians4Palestine have continued their weekly protests in support of Palestine and are heartened by the increased numbers of honks showing support but too many responses continue to be negative. We just don't want to hear about it anymore. Turning down the news has given the same sense of relief as closing the windows did for those who minded the smell of burning bodies in 1942-45.
For all of you who remain "conflicted" about the truth of the genocide in Gaza, please open your hearts and minds and listen to the evidence that is there, from very legitimate sources. Beyond the reports from the United Nations Court of Justice are other voices such as Jewish Voice for Peace. One very helpful YouTube talk is by Norman Finkelstein, at the University of Massachusetts, called Gaza, Truth and the Battle for Free Speech. He is a Jewish historian, professor, and writer, living in the U.S. but whose earlier years of life in Palestine give his voice a chilling note of authority.
Time is running out for the people of Palestine. First it was Gaza, and now the West Bank, but soon Lebanon too, where over a million people have been displaced by Israeli occupation. This genocide is happening with the whole world watching, Do we care enough to do something….anything…at least to wonder why?
Respectfully yours,
Ruth Johnston
