Shooting a hole-in-one is an achievement for a golfer of any level.
But Sarnia’s Tina Maitland pulled off the improbable by recording back-to-back aces just days apart while golfing at Black River Country Club in Port Huron.
“It has fulfilled my dreams,” said Maitland, who had golfed 23 years without ever marking a “1” on the scorecard.
“All I wanted to do was hit one hole-in-one before I quit.”
Maitland almost cancelled her outing on June 6 due to windy weather, but is happy she didn’t. Accompanied by friend Vern Sauve she sunk her first ace on the 112-yard, par-three fourth hole.
“I was like, ‘Where’d it go?’” she said. “I was just shocked.”
But maybe not as shocked as she was on June 13 when she sunk another hole-in-one during a round with boyfriend James Handy. Same course, but this time on the 106-year 13th hole.
Maitland’s bright-pink Titleist found the flag on what she said is the club’s toughest par three.
Maitland said Black River’s staff announced her achievement on their Facebook page and awarded her a complimentary glass of wine.
Back in Sarnia, she said she commissioned a trophy after the first ace to commemorate the achievement.
She said store staff didn’t believe her when she called back and asked them amend it a bit.
