The St. Clair River’s high water has claimed a victim in the Ferry Dock Hill building.
Sarnia approved $300,000 in last week’s budget to demolish the city-owned building at 2 Ferry Dock Hill.
An engineering report last December found water-related problems with the structure and concluded, “the overall design and condition of the property is not appropriate beyond the existing lease.”
The law firm of George Murray Shipley Bell has occupied the building more than 60 years. In 2017, its lease was extended to June of 2023.
Last week, the law firm announced it has purchased the former Bank of Montreal building at 215 Christina St. N., and will move to the new location in February.
In August, the St. Clair River was 32 inches above average and three inches higher than the record level set in 1986.
