The annual Seniors Cruise is set to sail again on Monday, June 25.
The 40-year-old Sarnia tradition provides about 1,000 seniors with lunch, entertainment and a St. Clair River cruise aboard the Duc d’Orleans II — all at no cost to participants.
It is literally a gift to the seniors of Sarnia-Lambton, according to Lambton Elderly Outreach, which stepped in to save the cruise when it was at risk of disappearing in April.
The Duc d’Orleans organization donates the boat, fuel and crew time while the food, drinks and other supplies are provided by individuals, volunteers and corporate sponsors.
Cruises start at 9 a.m. and depart Centennial Park about every 90 minutes, with the total number dependent on registered participants.
For more information, or to donate, call 519-344-1763, ext. 306, and leave a message.
To protect the future of the Seniors Cruise, it will soon become its own not-for-profit entity, organizers say.
