School buses across Sarnia-Lambton were canceled Wednesday as Environment Canada warned drivers to ‘prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions’ as a snowfall warning remains in effect across the region.
CLASS (Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services) which provides student transportation for the Lambton Kent (LKDSB) and St. Clair Catholic District (SCCDSB) School Boards, said buses were cancelled in all zones due to the inclement weather forecast.
All LKDSB elementary schools are open to students, while the board’s secondary students, regardless of whether they ride a bus to school or not, will engage in one-day remote, teacher-led virtual learning today (Jan. 25) and the secondary schools will be closed to students for in-person learning, the board said.
Schools across the SCCDSB are open.

Significant snowfall was expected to begin Wednesday morning, the agency noted, estimating total snowfall accumulations near 15 cm, with locally higher amounts possible.
The snowfall warning, which includes much of southern Ontario, is the result of a Texas low tracking northeastward, the weather agency noted, and is expected to bring snow to the area Wednesday, and possible into early Thursday morning.
“A Texas low will bring heavy snow to the area beginning Wednesday morning,” Environment Canada said, adding that heavy snow will taper off to flurries overnight or early Thursday morning. A few additional centimetres will be possible on Thursday.
Hazards include reduced visibility in heavy snow, that will make travel difficult.
“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” the alert noted. “Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”
