Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Bluewater Health, Gary Morrison passed away at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Sherry Morrison. Dear brother-in-law of Chrissy (Dave) Mathers, George (Susan) McIlwain, Lynn McIlwain, Gary McIlwain and Bill McIlwain. Dear uncle of Melissa (Adam) Bush, Megan McIlwain, Colleen McIlwain, Connor (Julie) Mathers, Lana McIlwain and Devon McIlwain. Cherished great-uncle of Owen and Cole Bush and Maya Mathers. Brother of John (Barb) Morrison. Predeceased by his parents, Jack and Betty Morrison. Gary worked at Imperial Oil for 37 years, where he began his career at 19 as a process operator, and eventually became the fire chief. He was a passionate farmer, and one of the first organic farmers in the area. He was born and raised on a farm on the 8th line. Twenty-five years ago, they resettled to a new farm on Hubbard Line. Gary’s devotion to the farm, as well as a wetland he created for ducks, will leave a legacy for years to come. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family wishes to thank Dr. Crombeen, Dr. Lebert, Dr. McSweeney, and the nurses and staff of Palliative Floor at Bluewater Health for their care of Gary. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Vincent de Paul or Bluewater Centre for Raptor Rehabilitation (cheques only at the funeral home please).
