Students across Lambton and Chatham-Kent are set to compete in a six-week classroom reading challenge that rewards time spent reading with prizes for teachers, classes, and schools.

Homeschool, elementary, and secondary school classes are invited to participate in the Clash of the Classrooms Reading Challenge, running from February 2 to March 13, 2026. The initiative is hosted in partnership by Lambton County Library and Chatham-Kent Public Library.
The challenge is open to public, Catholic, and private schools, as well as homeschool groups, across both regions. Educators must register their classes and report the cumulative number of minutes students read during the challenge period.
How the challenge works
Students may read at school or at home, and all reading counts, including being read to, regardless of the material. Each minute read by an individual student is added to their class total.
Prizes for teachers and classrooms
Four teachers will each receive a $50 gift card at the end of the challenge, including two elementary teachers and two secondary teachers, with one winner from Lambton and one from Chatham-Kent in each category.
Six classes with the highest number of reading minutes in their grade group will win a pizza party. This includes two Kindergarten to Grade 3 classes, two Grades 4 to 8 classes, and two Grades 9 to 12 classes, with one winner from Lambton and one from Chatham-Kent in each group.
School-wide prizes and trophies
Schools with the highest number of reading minutes per capita will receive a $200 donation to their library or learning commons. This includes two elementary schools and two secondary schools, with one winner from Lambton and one from Chatham-Kent in each category.
Two homeschool groups, one from Lambton and one from Chatham-Kent, will each receive a $100 donation.
Two schools across both regions with the highest overall reading totals will be named Clash Cup Champions, with one elementary school and one secondary school earning the title.
Registration and reading logs are available through Lambton County Library for educators wishing to take part.
