Mayor wants U.S. jets over city to buzz off

Sarnia’s mayor has had enough of fly-bys from U.S. fighter jets.

Sarnia’s mayor has had enough of fly-bys from U.S. fighter jets.

Mike Bradley has complained to Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland about military planes making low passes over the city, which he said is causing concern and apprehension among citizens.

“I would appreciate knowing whether this is a right that has been established between Canada and the United States for aircraft to be in another country’s air space,” Bradley asked in a letter.

Jets based at Michigan’s Selfridge Air National Guard often fly along the St. Clair River and sometimes appear to enter Canadian airspace.

In 2010, the Mayor received an apology from the base’s commander for such maneuvers and was reassured it wouldn’t happen again.
