Sarnia is looking into what it would take to offer free WiFi in the downtown core.
City staff have been asked to prepare a report on the cost, possible partnerships and what provincial or federal grants are available.
Coun. Anne Marie Gillis, who floated the idea, said other cities including London, Stratford and Peterborough already provide free online access as a way to stimulate economic development.
The downtown core is defined at Christina and Front streets, between George and Wellington streets.
A report to city council is expected in March.
