Violin and piano duo Corey Lyle Gemmell and Benjamin Smith to perform in Sarnia

The Sarnia Concert Association will bring the duo to the Imperial Theatre on Nov. 4 for a program spanning Beethoven, Brahms, Prokofiev, Ravel and Gershwin.

Violinist Corey Lyle Gemmell and pianist Benjamin Smith will perform at Sarnia’s Imperial Theatre on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m.

Presented by the Sarnia Concert Association, the concert is titled New Wine in Old Sonatas. The program opens with Beethoven’s Sonata No. 4 for piano and violin, followed by Brahms’s Violin Sonata No. 2 and Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 2. It also includes Ravel’s Pièce en forme de Habanera and Gershwin’s Three Preludes, arranged by violinist Jascha Heifetz.

The musicians have performed together as the Gemmell & Smith duo. In 2025, they presented the complete Beethoven violin and piano sonatas for the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society.

Gemmell, a Hamilton native who lives in Markham, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Canada and abroad. He is a concertmaster with several Ontario orchestras, including Toronto’s Esprit Orchestra.

Smith is a Toronto-based pianist and faculty member at the Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School and Taylor Young Artist Academy. His performances have included solo and chamber concerts across Canada and the United States.

Single tickets are $50 for adults and $30 for students. They are available through the Imperial Theatre box office or by calling 519-344-7469.
